OFFICE OR SKYPE AT HOME,
Data suggests that one out of every eight adults suffer from addiction of alcohol and drugs. But these days, gambling, indulging in sex/pornography are becoming more prevalent owing to easy access. Smoking still remains an issue for many. Despite such alarming figures only 10 per cent of these people manage to seek help from trained addictions professionals and make the decision to attend regular counselling sessions. People experiencing any type of addiction often have poor personal and work relationships too. They lose hope easily and find they have very less motivation to do anything in their life.
Depression, anxiety are examples of other mental health issues that can be found in individuals experiencing an addiction. Any individual who engages in a compulsive behaviour and finds it difficult to stop for a period and experiences negative consequences is termed as an addiction. It is also critical to understand that people who suffer from any kind of addiction are not only vulnerable emotionally, but their physical health could be compromised, and they might be risking some major health issues.
Addiction is considered to be a life-long disease and hence the right support may assist with the individual’s journey of recovery. It is important for an individual to understand the underlying issues behind their addiction and be consistent in their journey to stay sober.
Often people do not know where to turn and feel powerless and are hesitant to talk to people about it as they feel shame and feel there are stigmas attached making it difficult for them in seeking professional help. People often find themselves stuck in a vicious cycle, where they are constantly battling the fight between staying sober or losing control and surrendering to their addictions. Hence, It is very crucial to understand addictions long-term consequences before you give up and one should be supported and encouraged to seek help as soon as possible.
