Studies have shown that drinking alcohol in moderation can be quite healthy and have benefits for a person.
Harm from alcohol depends on difference circumstances, their weight, height and the quantity.
The Australian guidelines are stating theres no safe quantity to drink, so if you drink alcohol i’m going to give you the following guidelines in which it’s considered will minimize your harm in drinking. These guidelines are from the National Health and Medical counsel of Australia.
The first guideline is drinking no more than 2 standard drinks a day for men and women. This is going to minimize your harm.
Guideline number 2 is in one siting not to drink more than 4 standard alcoholic drinks. So drinking less frequently, perhaps just once a week will minimise your risks from alcohol related harm over your lifetime.
So, what is a standard drink, a standard drink is 1 nip of spirits 30ml, 100ml of wine, 1 can or 1 stubbie of mid-strength beer. For your information a pot of beer is equivalent to 1.1 standard drinks. A schooner is 1.6 standard drinks and the one you’re poured in a restaurant is equivalent to approximately 1.5 standard drinks.
